MARKER - BY ROBIN COOK
A book review by Patricia Burton

This book is a great mystery read as well as a scientific comment on how the field of genetic research is impacting and will cotinue to impact healthcare.  Having a daughter with a genetic diagnosis of Turner Syndrome, has caused me to be more interested in this topic than the average person.  I often wonder what improvements in her daily life may come from more knowledge and understanding of the human genome.

Marker's plot line described several negative consequences of getting  personal health information into the wrong hands and using this information to hurt, rathen than help people.  As with many, many other advances in the sciences, new formulas and ways of viewing data can be used to both help and harm mankind.  Therefore, it is our responsibility as citizens and parents to stay abreast of new information and continue to critically think about each discovery's impact on our world.
